Lodge Activities

Set on 1oo hectares of rolling meadows and virgin forest, Wakamarina Lodge provides guests with the ideal setting to relax and unwind. The native vegetation and gardens attract an abundance of indigenous wildlife, including tuis, wood pigeons, tiny wax-eyes and cheeky wekas. Walkways provide access to many parts of the property, with highlights such as the ponga fern grove and waterfall. A stream-side stroll will lead you to the crystal clear waters of the Wakamarina River for a refreshing swim. Guided night tours provide the opportunity to spot brush-tailed possums and glow worms.

We also offer you the opportunity to use the professional, all-weather tennis court, petanque and table tennis facilities. For inside activities, a range of good books, DVDs and board games are also available on request.

The Wakamarina Valley was once a bustling gold mining town. Although mines and claims have been largely abandoned, a few hardy people still scour the gravels for nuggets. We offer a special guided tour which will take you to some of the more spectacular relics and offer you the chance to strike it lucky yourself.

Activities

Centrally located between Nelson and Blenheim, and only minutes from the gateway to the magnificent Marlborough Sounds, Wakamarina Lodge provides the ideal base for a large variety of pursuits. Simply indicate your preference and we will make all arrangements for you.

Fly fishing

The world-renowned Pelorus River offers excellent seasonal trout fishing for both rainbow and brown trout. Fishing access is only a short drive from the lodge and an abundance of feisty stock assures a good chance for even the novice angler.

Boating in the Marlborough Sounds

The nearby township of Havelock, also known as the ‘Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World’ for its locally grown mussels served in various cafes and restaurants, is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. Whether it be picnicking in a secluded bay, cruising, kayaking or salt water fishing for snapper and cod, our guides will offer you an unforgettable day upon the turquoise waters nestled amongst breath-taking, bush-clad hills.

Guided hunting tours

The isolated valleys and mountains of the Richmond Forest Park harbour a bounty of deer, wild pigs and formidable billy goats. We can arrange tours with knowledgeable guides who consider hunting their primary passion.

Vineyards

The Marlborough region is internationally recognised for its superb award-winning wines and offers guests an abundance of tour and tasting options ranging from small boutique vineyards to large-scale commercial operations.
